Amazon Retail division has instituted a hiring freeze

Amazon has sort of been the last one standing among some of these large companies, still filling a lot of posotion. But now Amazon Retail has now paused hiring and might indicate incoming hiring freezes on a broader level as well: https://www.nytimes.com/2022/10/04/technology/amazon-freezes-corporate-hiring.html

Wouldn't you think retail would be less affected given the holiday season rolling around? More than 10,000 openings were posted in that division, so it makes sense they'd do some cost cutting there.

"Walmart, the country’s largest private employer, has said it will hire fewer hourly workers for the holiday shopping season this year. FedEx, which competes with Amazon for delivering packages to customers, said last month that it was freezing hiring, closing stores and parking planes as demand fell short of its forecasts." This ia actually alarming to me. Lots of people rely on these kinds of seasonal jobs to make ends meet. Idk how retailers expect to see sales bounce back when folks can't meet their needs. Inflation is eating wages left and right and it's not at the pump
