Interviewing Take Home Assignments: Yay or Nay?

Question

Curious to hear the experience of others in regards to take home assignments as part of the interview process.

What company, role, and what kind of assignment was it? Do you feel it was a worthwhile use of your time (and the companies)?

I can see pros and cons for take home assignments but would appreciate your insights.

it really depends on the size and expected time commitment, I already see a couple pros and cons here that people have listed that I was going to mention so ill skip that. 
I can see take homes being effective for very small teams tbh allows you to schedule significantly more interviews and filter the better candidates to do follow ups with.

Never again. Spent 12 hrs (even containerized and deployed on heroku) on one and got ghosted.The issue with take homes is that they don't scale for applicants, even when they say it should take &lt; x amount of hrs. It'll always favour the desperate who can pour hrs into it over the competent who's time constrained. Honestly for the seething disdain i have for leetcode, it scales across orgs who administer it - the way it looks right now, its becoming the de facto interview standard :(
