Horizontal move with 10% higher base salary vs Vertical move with 5% higher base salary?

Is this the same company with both these options or one or both are with different companies? If different companies...I go with horizontal move with the higher salary while keeping good connections with the recruiter for the vertical move. After a year or more, move towards the vertical move.

Without knowing anything else about work life benefits for the choices, teams you'll be working with, work to do...that's what I'd do from a strict money standpoint

At 6 YOE, I would take the vertical move, under the assumption that your future earning potential with 4 YOE at &lt;higher level&gt; will be higher than an extra 4 YOE at &lt;current level&gt;. But I understand it's hard to walk away from thousands of dollars per year.

"Better" is really subjective though. What are your career goals around leveling and where you want to top out? What are your salary goals? Where do you want to be in 5-10 years and how do these opportunities fit into that vision? Everyone has a magic weighting for these things, you probably need to figure out what's important for you.

Growth path? Culture? Do you care about any of these? I did a lateral move for a 20% raise and got myself trapped in a toxic  environment with no prospects of career growth.  Hated every moment of it.

What’s your situation? What are the companies and what’s the growth like at these companies? Do you have a family to think about? There’s so much that goes into play here and whether you’re playing the short game or the long game.

Depends on what your long term goal is -&gt; I’d go for promotion with 5% as that usually means improvements to comp around bonuses and in equity as well
