Salary decrease with remote work + relocation?

For anyone who relocated from a high cost of living area like the Bay Area, Seattle, or NYC to a cheaper place like Denver or Austin, did you guys see a decrease in your salary because of the place you moved to?

I have heard of this happening. When my company (~30 people at the time) chose to go all remote in August 2020, they explicitly promised to pay the same no matter where you lived. The allowable places were not everywhere, but it has expanded over time. I think right now it's CA, NY, DC, VA, NH, MA, FL -- and if they really wanted to hire someone from another state they would figure out a way to add it to the list.

A coworker told me that her NYC base was "adjusted: (aka lowered) to match the pay band in Texas.
