if you are currently at entry level firmware engineer, then a lateral move might be a viable option where you can be assigned as a team lead/jr. PM etc. In addition, if you are seriously pursuing this path, would definitely recommend getting all the well known certifications in Project Mgmt - traditional (PMP) and Agile. Also, you can search for junior PM roles to get started in this career. Lastly, do investigate and decide if you are going to really like being in Mgmt compared to Programming as both fields are at the opposite ends of the spectrum although part of the same team.
