How do you deal politics?

Inherited a large ERP support manager role (large ERP such as SAP/Peoplesoft). I am experienced in ERP support, but not silly politics!

Issue#1:No knowledge share

Previous team members have some animosity, they do not have any documentation, will not share any custom code, tips, insights, information etc. They just say, "comb through the application and figure it out yourself". Our management is weak!

Issue#2:Roadblocks

Our sysadmin (not my team) still has alegience to old ERP manager, and is making every step difficult, such as, they will not give full access to dev environments, seems, they will email code, if we correctly ask with a ticket (one ticket per object name), my teams requests are always deyaled, wheras, requests from other people are done rightaway. If I route my request through their favorite person, its gets done rightaway.Without full access we don't know what we don't know!

Issue#3:Politics

Looks like there is extreme policits and favoritism under play.

I am working through my management to tidy up this, but its difficult to build/manage a new team, play politics, do the support work and keep everyone happy. This looks like a you can't win this anyway you approach. But, I don't want to lose hope.

‐-------------

1. Is this normal in other workplaces?

2. How do you deal these things and be successful?

3. What startegies work in these cases?

Thanks!
